Marvel Studios revolutionized the way of film making ten years ago in 2008 when they kicked off their Cinematic Universe with the blockbuster Iron Man. The film not only made Robert Downey Jr. the poster boy of MCU but it also started a new trend of post credits scene thereby showing a bigger picture and connecting various standalone films. Currently Marvel is in its phase 3 that started with another blockbuster and critically acclaimed film Captain America: Civil War. Kevin Fiege, the master mind behind MCU has stated that MCU will be a different world after it concludes with Avengers 4 in 2019. So will they stop making the superhero movies? No. But yes there will be a whole different list of superhero movies that will be produced by Marvel Studios in future. Spiderman: Homecoming (Release Date –July 7, 2017) –
There was a lot of pressure on Young Tom Holland when he stepped in to the boots of Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. Fans had very negative thoughts about Tom replacing Andrew Garfield in MCU and basically everyone was expecting that Tom would screw up the iconic superhero’s role. But boy he proved everyone wrong and immediately raised hopes for the solo Spiderman movie. Spiderman-Homecoming will hit theatres on July 7, 2017 and we are betting that this film will do a business around $750 million. It is quite possible that the presence of Robert Downey Jr. will boost the revenue of Spiderman past $1 billion. Our hopes are high and we will update this page after the release of the film.
Thor: Ragnarok (Release Date- November 3, 2017) –
The trailer of Thor 3 broke the internet in early 2017 and became one of the most watched trailers of all time. Everything was perfect about this trailer from the catchy tune of Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin to the perfect cameos of Cate Blanchet’s Hela, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster and our very favourite Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Thor 3 might introduce the last infinity stone the Soul stone. Also it will kick start the events of Avengers Infinity war and we might be surprised by the cameos of Ironman, Captain America, Ant-man and Doctor strange. It is safe to say that Thor 3 will dominate the box office and earn revenue somewhere around $1 billion.
Black Panther (Release Date – February 16, 2018) –
DC really needs to learn about how to make a brilliant trailer from the Marvel Studios. Marvel was already headlining 2017 with Spiderman and Thor 3 but it sent a big message with Black Panther’s trailer that there is more to come in 2018. The teaser trailer of Black Panther was so well received that many fans asked Marvel to release the film early. Chadwick Boseman won millions of heart from his portrayal of T’challa in Captain America: Civil War. The film might not be able to touch $1 billion mark but it will surely earn somewhere around $750 million.
Avengers: Infinity War (Release Date-May 4,2018) –
Is Infinity War the most awaited movie of the decade? We have seen how the whole world celebrated the release of The Force Awakens and how it surpassed the $2 billion mark. But will the ultimate film of Marvel be able to break all the records in film history and become the highest grossing film of all time? We will be seeing Guardians of the Galaxy, iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, hawkeye, Ant Man, Spiderman, Black widow, Wasp, Loki, thanos, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and so many other superheroes that it even a slight imagination gives Goosebumps. Basically it will be the biggest superhero film of all time and with that said we must expect at least $2 billion from this film.
Ant-Man and The wasp (Release Date – July 6, 2018) –
Ant man was a surprise hit when it was released back in 2015. Nobody expected that Paul rudd will portray Scott Lang’s character so brilliantly. He nailed the character in Captain America: Civil war. Marvel studios made fans happy when it announced a sequel to the film and stated that it will feature Wasp in central role. The film will surely do a business around $500 million.
Captain Marvel (Release Date – March 8, 2019)-
Captain marvel would be the first solo female superhero film from Marvel studios. Brie Larson has been roped in to play the titular role. Captain Marvel might make an early debut in The Avengers 3. The business of this film is hard to predict but the recent success of Wonder woman can ensure the studios that they can expect somewhere around $500 million. If it connects dot with the Avengers movie then surely this number is not impossible to reach.
The Avengers 4 (Release Date – May 3, 2019) –
Earlier it was stated by Marvel studios that The Avengers 3 would be divided in two parts and both part would be shot back to back. The films were even titled The Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. But later on Kevin Fiege commented that both Avengers films will be stand alone movies that would be complete in themselves. Of course they will be part of a bigger picture just like other MCU movies. If The Avengers 3 turns out to be as expected then the fourth instalment will shake up the film industry and will set up new box office records.
Spider-Man 2 (Release Date – July 5, 2019) –
It is hard to imagine how the world would be after we lose so many superheroes in Avengers Infinity war. Spider-man will surely survive those events as we will be seeing the sequel of Spider-man homecoming being released in July 2019. Will Spider-man sequel start the new phase of MCU or will it be just a unique standalone film?
Black Widow (Release Date – 2019) –
After a lot of online petitions on social sites, Kevin fiege finally admitted that he is aware that fans want a solo Black widow film and he himself is looking forward for a stand alone movie of the female superhero. There are many rumours that Marvel already has planned out script for the film and it might be set before the events of Avengers Infinity war. Does this mean that we will lose our favourite female superheroine in Infinity wars?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Release Date – May 1, 2020) –
Admit it that you will go and watch the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy even if it has nothing to do with the rest of the MCU. Earlier there were reports that James gunn would quit the franchise after Vol. 2 but the amazing success of the sequel encouraged James to consider the possibility of a sequel. In March 2017, James admitted that he is very much in love with the franchise and he would bring back the team for another movie. Even the end credits pointed out that Guardians of the Galaxy will return. We are hoping for a 2020 release date.
Blade (Release Date -2020) –
Wesley Snipes who played the iconic role of Blade in 2000s stated that he was being contacted by Marvel studios for a possible renewal of the movie franchise. Marvel too hinted that they are keen on bringing back Blade to the big screen and they have a script too for that.
Doctor Strange 2 (Release Date – 2020) –
If you take a look on the Marvel Movie calendar you will find that the studios has booked several dates in 2020 which means that the MCU will be very much alive after Infinity war. The first date booked in Marvel movie calendar is May 1, 2020 and our best guess is that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on this date. The second date is August 7, 2020 and this makes us to look at the contract of Benedict Cumerbacth. Even though no star has revealed the exact rules and deals of their contract but we assume that Benedict has around 4 movies deal with Marvel. He will appear in Thor ragnarok and both Avengers movies. If the cameo of Thor is counted out then we can very much expect Doctor Strange to return to the big screen in 2020. Marvel might not reveal about it until the release of Avengers 3.
Untitled Marvel Movie on November 6, 2020 –
So Ironman, Captain America and Thor will not have a stand alone film as they were only expected for a trilogy. Black widow, Hawkeye and Hulk may or may not have a stand alone movie. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is confirmed. Doctor Strange might happen. Spider-Man sequel is confirmed and if a third film happen then we don’t expect it before 2021. So which superhero film we are going to see on November 6, 2020? Is it Captain Marvel 2? It is hardly possible because if the sequel happens then it will not happen before 2021. I guess this film will start a whole new era of MCU or maybe we will see all the characters re-cast with new actors.
So this is the complete marvel movie calendar that includes all the upcoming feature films of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Do you think that the Superhero bubble will burst after the Avengers movie and we will be pushed back to the normal movie routines or do you think it will continue to expand?
