Ao Jumonji’s fantasy light novel series Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash became an instant hit in 2013 itself. It was clear by 2015 (when the series was adapted for manga) that an anime adaption is inevitable. By March 2016 we got our first season of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash that aired on Tokyo MX. However, two years have passed since then but there is still no word about Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Season 2.
The English dubbed rights of the anime Hai to Gensou no Grimgar were bought by Funimation and Crunchyroll. By the end of 2017, it became a global fan favourite anime. However, due to the lack of the news about Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash season 2, fans are desperately discussing the show in anime forums.
In a forum thread on MyanimeList, one member noted that the second season of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash might see the light of the day as A-1 Pictures is renewing many anime shows in 2018.
First of all, there is no lack of content for the second season as the Light novel series has expanded up to 12 volumes. Secondly, the anime has potential to become a global phenomenon due to its high-fantasy appeal.

Plot of Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
The fantasy show starts with several people being thrown into a new game-like world. In this world, they have no memories of their past life. However, they do remember their names. They get to know that in this world they either have to kill whoever comes their way or get killed.
They can make alliances with one another and form groups in order to survive. Upon learning this many strong members join forces with each other while the weaklings are left alone.
The remaining loners form a group together. These loners are – thief Haurhiro, Priest Manato, Hunter Yume, Mage Shihoru, Dark Knight Ranata, beast Moguzo and later on healer Mary.
Manato becomes the leader of the group. They learn that they have to hunt down goblins and loot them so that they can get rewards. These rewards can be used to buy food, clothing and other necessary stuff.
Unwillingly, the group slowly adapts the merciless killing attitude. Excited from their first few loots, the group decides to track down a medium sized goblin army to defeat. However, their plan backfires as a large army of goblins attack them.
Manato loses his life in the battle. Sad and depressed from this, the group makes Haruhiro their new leader. Even though Haruhiro knows nothing about leadership yet he accepts this new responsibility.
The group Is later joined by Mary who is a healer and priest like Manato. However, she is cold and ruthless. This is because she lost all her friends to the giant kobold death spot.
Even though the group dislikes her yet Haruhiro accepts her into the group. She turns out to be a valuable member has he heal others after the battle. During their time in this fantasy world, every member tries to remember their true identity and the secret of their past life. Will the group survive in this deadly world or will they be mercilessly killed by monsters and other groups? The first season beautifully shows this story.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash season 1 was 12 episode long and it aired from January 2016 to March 2016. As it was produced by well-known studio A1- Pictures so fans were expecting that they will see Season 2 of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash very soon.
However, The studio kept mum about the future of the series until late 2017. In January 2018, during an event, spokesperson Tomonori Ochikoshi commented that the studio is interesting in renewing anime series that started after 2015. He did not exclusively point out about Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash but as the anime was produced in 2016 so this means that we can be positive about the second season.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash Season 2 Release Date
It will be too soon to deduce the exact release date of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash season 2 but we can expect it somewhere around fall 2019.
A1-Pictures is already devoting a lot of time and money to their popular anime series Sword Art Online this year. We can expect the show to enter production stage by fall 2018.
