Top Films of 2009
2009 was the golden year for Hollywood. If you take a look on history then you will find that the last year of every decade has been special to Hollywood in one way or another. Take for example 1999, the last year of 90s. A Lot of critically acclaimed films were released in the same year. The ratio of critically hit films to flop films was so high that it became very tough for Award Juries of various popular Awards to select the best movie of the year. Similarly 2009 again turned out to be lucky year for Hollywood. But this time it was not critically, it was commercially. Not only for Hollywood but for Bollywood too 2009 was a lucky Year. Both Hollywood and Bollywood got their highest grossing film of all time in the year 2009. Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ became the highest grossing bollywood film in 2009.
The year 2009 had a set of record breaking movies at box office. A total of 7 movies made it to the list of 50 highest grossing movies of all time. That was not just enough. Director James Cameroon’s Avatar broke the 13 year old record of Titanic and became the highest grossing film of all time. Avatar also became the first film to gross $2 billion at box office. Epic romance film ‘Titanic’ which become highest grossing film in 1997 was also directed by James Cameroon.
Animation genre once again proved to be profitable for Hollywood and most animated movies released in the year 2009 were blockbuster. At awad shows Kathyrn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker turns out to be the biggest show runner and won a record 6 Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards.
