Greatest Movie Sequels of All time
What are the best movie sequels? If Hollywood is expert of anything then it surely is making sequels. In the early days of cinema, Sequel had very different meaning. Sequels were produced when a director wished to tell a very long story in equal and meaningful parts. As it was not suitable for business (and resources) to make a long movie (of more than 4 hours) in one go. So the idea of sequel was introduced. Take for example, The godfather – Director Francis Ford Coppola was very impressed from the novel of Mario Puzo. But it was not easy for him to narrate that long story in one go while also detailing each and every events. For the perfect character development and story continuation, it was required the novel be broken into two equal meaningful parts. Francis knew it and that is why he directed the godfather in two parts. Yes there is third one too but the true beauty of the entertainment lies in the first two parts.
As decade passed by the meaning sequel also changed in Hollywood. Now Box office performance was more important to producers to decide if the film will see a sequel or not. One thing that they do not care to understand is that some films are better left alone instead of spawning them into a meaningless series. But film makers are always more interested in making money online and needless to say this has resulted in to unwanted sequels and series. In fact there are many sequels that down grades the stardom achieved by the original film. There are many examples (The Hangover series for example).
Luckily few directors were also able to surpass the success of original films in measure of revenue grossed and story continuation. The character development, plot advancement and aura of original film is maintained in the sequels as well. Even though there are many movie series that are either based on best selling novel series (or comic books) yet most amazing sequels/ series are those that are created right from the scratch and leave audience speechless.
