Top Films 2011
2011 was totally the year of sequels. The year 2011 showed a huge increase in the number of sequels and amazingly almost all of them performed well at box office and some of them even got critical praise too. One of the most awaited sequel of the year was the last film in the Harry potter series – Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part II. As was predicted by film pundits the film actually became the highest grossing film of the year. Another most anticipated and most talked about sequel of the year was Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean- On Stranger Tides. Every body was waiting for their favorite Captain Jack Sparrow to return to the big screen. Commercially the film was a blockbuster and grossed $1 Billion becoming the third highest grossing film of the year. Critically the film was a big disappointment and i guess this is where Johnny depp’s bad luck started and he failed to give any major critical or commercial hit for next few years.
Michael Bay’s third Transformers film – Transformers – Dark Side of the Moon also performed magically well at box office and become the second highest grossing film of the year. India and Indian audience played a vital role int he success of these three films at box office. Other than that the year 2011 was full of sequels, remakes and reboots along with superhero sci fi movies.
