What are the best Vampire movies? Vampires have been part of popular folklore since the 12th century. It is hard to track back the origin of Vampires in popular myths but there has been description of similar creatures in myths and tales all around the world. The term Vampire was made famous in the 15th century to describe creatures who looks like human being and feed on blood of other living organisms. Vampires had character traits similar to that of Bats. Even though Vampires had been part of pop culture since the 12th century yet they were actually made famous in the 19th century. All credit goes to Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula that was published in 1897. The novel introduced the character of Count Draula, a vampire who hasn’t aged and is looking for new blood to spread his undead curse.The novel was a huge hit among audience and later on become on of the best selling novels of all time.
It was hard for film makers to resist such a popular character into movies. It was not long after the publication of novel that Count Dracula actually made his debut at the big screen. The first Vampire film was made in 1913. However the most famous Vampire film of silent era came in 1922 called Nosferatu. The film was cited as an evergreen gothic horror film of all time and even today it is one of the highest rated horror film of all time. By 1930s Dracula was the most popular vampire that was adapted in as many as 150 plus movies in next few decades.
There have been 100s of Vampire films that were released in past 6 decades but sadly not all of them lived up to the expectations. However there were several film makers who learned that the character of vampires could be molded in to a thriller, romance, horror or even in comedy film depending upon the theme of the movie.
