What are the best sci movies ever? It is an irony that until the 15th Century Science wasn’t taken seriously and scientific theories were considered fictional. However, several historical incidents in 15th century led people to explore the world more logically and find scientific reasons of unexplained phenomenons. This inspired many authors too who used several scientific theories into their fantasy world and wrote world famous novels. It is no exaggeration that Science fiction has actual led to inventions of several things in real life. Probably this is the reason why everyone shows keen interest in science fiction films or books.
The term science fiction was coined in the 19th century and the most important contribution to science fiction was that of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne. The science fiction genre was so popular among people that when the production companies invested in films there were several sci fi films too. The very first sci fi film is said to silent French film A Trip to the Moon in 1902. But the first sci fi film to gain popularity was Metropolis in 1927. However for the first half of 20th century Sci fi films were not upto par due to lack of technology. But after the Second World War ended the technology of developed countries was much advanced by then. This helped the film making too.
The 1950s is said to be the mother decade of sci fi films when a lot of science fiction films were produced. But still the films were not able to perform good at box office and sci fi was considered as a risky genre by film production companies. However in 1960s two landmark Sci fi films – Planet of the Apes and 2001: A Space Odyssey (both released in 1968) changed the whole scenario of sci fi genre. By 1970s Many producers tried hand in science fiction films and were highly successful. Star Wars is best example. By 1980s it was made clear that Sci fi films can easily break records on box office and this led to several B movie directors too to try hands in science fiction. Alien Invasion, Time Travel and Space movies were very popular among fans. By 1990s sci fi touched another milestone when Monster movies and disaster movies too were added to the genre. By 00s the highly successful sci fi movies were actually superhero films.
