Netflix created a huge controversy when it released documentary TV series Making a Murderer. This reality TV series was penned by editor and filmmaker duo of Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. The two were working on the script since 2005 and it took them ten years to complete the series. Making a Murderer Series documents the real life events of Steven Avery. Steven was charged of r@pe and attempted murder in 1985. He was found guilty and was sentenced to 32 years of imprisonment. Steven twice appealed to the court for retrial but was rejected. He was found innocent in 2003 when his DNA didn’t matched with the attacker of 1985 case. He filed a $36 million defamation case on civic body after release. 2 years later, Steven was charged for another murder. He along with his nephew Brendan Dassey was imprisoned for 40 years. In his defense Steven stated that he was being framed.
Laura got interested in the case when she read about it in the NY times in 2005. She told about it to her partner Moira and the duo decided to make a documentary about it. When Season 1 Premiered on Netflix on its entirety on 18 December 2015 it got word-of-mouth advertisement. The series was watched by millions of viewers and it started an online petition in support of Steven Avery. The series hugely impacted the case and in August 2016, Brendan Dassey case was overturned.

Laura and Moira both have commented on separate occasions that they have further content to add to the story. Making a Murderer season 2 will focus on the aftermath of 2007 conviction of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan. If series 2 come out then there is no doubt that it will fuel the controversy around the case. As of now there is no official update about the release date of Second season of Making a Murderer.
