Great Indian director Hrishikesh Mukherjee inspired many young Indian directors. Rohit shetty is surely a big fan of his films, especially Gol Maal(1979). May be that’s why he used the same title for his 2006 debut film and now in Bol Bachchan used the same theme as of the original. Bol bachchan is greatly inspired from Gol Maal but it fails to leave the long lasting impression as the original.

Plot: Ajay Devgan and Rohit shetty starer Bol Bachchan has many loopholes in the plot. The film follows the life of Abbas (played by Abhishek Bachchan) who along with his sister Sania (Asin) loses a case on Property. Being Homeless and Jobless, The brother sister duo has to move to a small village named Ranakpur in search of Job. On his first day in village Abbas saves the life of a kid who was trapped in a locked temple. He was not aware that the temple was locked from many years and his act resulted in a rage among certain villagers. Abbas is confronted by village’s Godfather Prithviraj Raghuvanshi (Ajay Devgan) who is soft from heart but tough outside. Knowing that Abbas being a muslim who broke sacred temple’s lock, Abbas friend Ravi Shastri (Krushna Abhishek) lies to Prithviraj about Abbas’ name and identity calling him ‘Abhishek Bachchan’. Forced under the circumstances Abbas has to play along. But the situation worsens when Prithviraj hires him as his secretary.

After seeing Abbas offering namaj in dargah, Prithviraj doubts about his identity but Abbas soon covers up telling a lie that the man he saw is Abhishek’s twin brother Abbas. Mustache man Abhishek bachcan becomes Prithviraj’s trusted secretary while ‘man with no mustache’ Abbas starts teaching dance to Prithviraj’s sister Radhika (Prachi Desai). In order to hide his identity Abbas creates a fake mother Madhumati (Archana Puran Singh) who is in fact mujra dancer named Zohra bai. Prithviraj soon gets attached to the family of Abbas specially with his sister Apeksha aka Sania who looks like Prithviraj’s late love interest.

Though Prithviraj never suspect Abbas but his henchman Makhan find out that Abhishek and Abbas are indeed one man. He tells his master about Abbas’ true identity but each time he is lied to by Abbas. This result in a hide and seek game between Abbas and Prithviraj which continues until the climax.

The Good: Abhishek Bachchan’s Acting and Ajay Devgan’s English

On the good side, Abhishek will make you laugh from his stylish look and accent as ‘dancer’ Abbas.Grown-ups might not laugh at the English one liners of Prithviraj but kids will surely enjoy it. Over all the film is entertaining enough that it will keep you engaged. Not to mention Rohit shetty’s stylish car stunts and action scenes adds up the flavor of the movie.

The Bad: The Plot

Though there were several funny punchlines and dialogues in Bol Bachchan but it would have turned to be much better if some work on the plot was done. Rohit shetty unnecessarily added several sub plot in the film without much explaining them to the audience. Like, Prithviraj’s late love interest looked like Sania but how prithvi fall in love with her or how she died that was never explain. Its illogical that a man who falls in love with a person just because she looked liked her late lover. Also a background story on Prithviraj’s fight with his cousins could be done. The climax was meaningless in fact it left the film incomplete.

Should I Watch It?: A Good film to watch with Family and Kids. Go for it if you don’t care about the logics and want plain laughs.
