Good TV Movies to Watch
Give way to the list of 100 best TV movies. Movies were meant only for the big screen but a time came in the late 40s when producers thought that not everyone like to go to theaters and watch movies. So they gave a try to specially ‘made for Television movies’ where the audience can watch brand new movies that were originally going to release at theater but were actually premiered on TV. The experiment was not fruitful but this led to the other dimension in film-making.
The first reason TV movies were not successful was that TV networks were afraid that ad partners might turn on them and contact directly to film producers for advertisements. So TV networks showed no enthusiasm in promoting TV movies. Secondly TV movies were not big budget films with larger than life feel. However, film producers and director still continued to work in this field. And Then came Steven Spielberg’s first film ‘Duel’ in 1971. This made for television film got so popular among fans that it was released at theaters and held special screening over-seas. The film started the golden era of TV movies.
The benefit of TV movies are that they require lesser money to invest and you do not need to have popular celebrities in your film. Plus the film were exposed to a larger audience that can easily be transformed in to cult fan following. So there was a flood of TV movies in later decade. But only few TV movies made impact on the mind of audience.
