Captain America 2 Leads, With Rio 2 on Second Spot
Good News for the Marvel studios is that the Sequel of superhero film Captain America has performed way better than its previous superhero film Thor: The Dark World. At First, Captain America – The Winter Soldier set new box office record with highest debut collection in the month of April and now the film has raced much ahead of Rio 2. The fox animated film Rio 2 was predicted by Box office followers to replace Captain America 2 this weekend and generates a revenue of $40M. Though the film did a good business of $39M but still it didn’t gave any tough competition to Captain America 2 expect on Friday.
Rio 2 has reportedly earned $39 Million and fall 2 million dollar short of the weekend Star Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The other films released this friday were horror flick Oculus and Kevin Costner’s sports film Draft Day. Oculus crossed more than 12 Million dollar at box office which is in fact an achievement for a horror flick with no popular star. The review of Oculus have been positive and the film is expected to pick up some more cash at box office this week. However, Same can not be said for Kevin costner’s sport flick Draft which earned a little less than $10 Million at box office. The film may fall off this week in earnings. Shailene Woodley’s Divergent is holding the fifth spot tightly and it will remain in Top 10 This Month. Divergent crossed $7.5 million this week.
Darren Aronofsky’s film Noah which stars Russel Crowe in the titular role has fallen to the sixth spot in Box office collection. Noah collected around $7 Million this week. God’s Not Dead has collected around 4.4 Million dollar while The Grand Budapest Hotel has collected $4 million, Muppets Most wanted collected 2.1 Million and on the tenth spot is animated film Mr. Peaboy and Sherman collection around $1.4 million dollar this week.
Captain America 2 has crossed $476 million at world wide box office and if the film continues at this pace then it might become the first Marvel film to cross $1 Billion with NO IRON MAN. Rio 2 on the other hand has not performed as good as its original film. Apart from this, Frozen has became the 8th highest grossing film of all time.
