13th April 2014 Weekend Box Office Report (Hollywood)

Captain America 2 Leads, With Rio 2 on Second Spot

Good News for the Marvel studios is that the Sequel of superhero film Captain America has performed way better than its previous superhero film Thor: The Dark World. At First, Captain America – The Winter Soldier set new box office record with highest debut collection in the month of April and now the film has raced much ahead of Rio 2. The fox animated film Rio 2 was predicted by Box office followers to replace Captain America 2 this weekend and generates a revenue of $40M. Though the film did a good business of $39M but still it didn’t gave any tough competition to Captain America 2 expect on Friday.

Rio 2 has reportedly earned $39 Million and fall 2 million dollar short of the weekend Star Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The other films released this friday were horror flick Oculus and Kevin Costner’s sports film Draft Day. Oculus crossed more than 12 Million dollar at box office which is in fact an achievement for a horror flick with no popular star. The review of Oculus have been positive and the film is expected to pick up some more cash at box office this week. However, Same can not be said for Kevin costner’s sport flick Draft which earned a little less than $10 Million at box office. The film may fall off this week in earnings. Shailene Woodley’s Divergent is holding the fifth spot tightly and it will remain in Top 10 This Month. Divergent crossed $7.5 million this week.
